In the theory of TCM illnesses occur because of a lack of balance between the organs and other body components, for example, the Qi and blood, or outer influences. These disturbances are classified by the theories named above. A therapy is based on a detailed examination, for which a great amount of methods exists. The therapy method known best in the western part of the world is doubtlessly acupuncture. This is, of course, only one part of TCM, but quite an important one. Moreover, TCM includes special massage techniques, treatment with herbs, feeding theory and Qigong. Because of the combination of all these different diagnosis- and therapy methods, TCM offers a wide spectrum for treatment.
